After Nigeria defeated Mozambique 4-0 in the Africa Cup of Nations round of 16, Super Eagles attacker Akor Adams quit the national team’s camp.
A simple message posted on the Super Eagles’ official X site on Tuesday revealed the development.
Adams was allowed to leave camp in order to care for his mother, who was admitted to the hospital on Monday, according to the statement.
“Akor Adams has been given permission to leave camp and visit his mother, who was admitted to the hospital yesterday.
The statement said, “We’re wishing his mother a speedy recovery and sending prayers and strength to him.”
Adams began the game and went on to score the Super Eagles’ fourth goal against the Mambas despite learning the news prior to Nigeria’s encounter versus Mozambique.
Considering the circumstances surrounding his departure, many praised his efforts.
It’s still uncertain if the Super Eagles forward, who plays club football for Sevilla, will be back in time for Nigeria’s Saturday quarterfinal match.
The Super Eagles will play either Algeria or the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the tournament’s following round.
