The Super Falcons of Nigeria have retained their 36th position in the latest FIFA World Ranking.

The updated ranking was published on the official website of the world football governing body on Friday, August 16, 2024.

In Africa, the Falcons remain the top-ranked team, followed by South Africa’s Banyana Banyana.

Their ranking comes as no surprise, considering their disappointing performance at this summer’s Paris Olympics.

The Falcons finished last in a tough group that included Olympic finalists Brazil, Japan, and world champions Spain.

In their opening match against Brazil, the Falcons suffered a 1-0 defeat, followed by another 1-0 loss to Spain.

Their match against Japan also ended in a 3-1 defeat, leaving the team disappointed in their Olympic return.

Africa’s other representative in Paris, Zambia, moved up in the rankings to 62nd place.

Like the Falcons, the Zambians also lost all three of their group matches in their second Olympic appearance.

Other African teams that saw upward movement include South Africa, now in 50th place, and Tunisia, ranked 58th.

The United States, Olympic champions in Paris, reclaimed the top spot, while silver medalists Brazil moved up to eighth place, and Spain dropped to third.

The next FIFA Women’s World Ranking will be released on December 20, 2024.
