A new survey has revealed growing public resentment in Osun State against the Federal Government and the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, over the continued seizure of local government allocations.
The report, released by Geopolitical Survey International, GSI, indicated that many residents consider the action as illegal, unconstitutional, and detrimental to grassroots development.
The survey, conducted between August 1 and 5, 2025, sampled 10,000 respondents across nine federal constituencies in the state.
The respondents comprised 60 per cent women and 40 per cent men, drawn from Osogbo, Ile Ife, Ikirun, Iragbiji, Iwo, Ila Orangun, Ikire, Ejigbo, Ede, Ilesa, Odeomu, Ilobu, Esa Oke, Ipetumodu, and Kuta.
According to the findings, “women are the most affected by the crisis, with 84 per cent of respondents identifying them as bearing the heaviest brunt. Ten per cent said men were most impacted, while six per cent remained undecided.”
On responsibility for the situation, 86 per cent of respondents blamed the Federal Government, 11 per cent blamed the state government, while three per cent expressed no clear view.
The political consequences also emerged strongly in the report.
The report said, “Eighty-seven per cent of respondents vowed to vote against the APC in subsequent elections, while 85 per cent expressed readiness to back the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) if elections were conducted today. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled two per cent support.”
Lead consultant for GSI, Dr Adeyemo Adeyefa, said the results demonstrated “solid home support for the state government in its encounter with the Federal Government and reflected the growing anger of indigenes and residents against the APC.”
He explained that the survey suggested the allocation seizure had, “increased hardship for womenfolk in Osun State and had significantly weakened the APC’s acceptance across the state.”
According to him, “the survey showed a notable rise in support for the PDP, which grew from 65 per cent three months ago to almost 85 per cent by August.
“This outcome indicates that the APC strategy may have backfired, as the fund seizure has boosted the public appeal of the PDP and strengthened the state government’s support base,” Adeyefa said.
He noted that the study was the fifth carried out by GSI since January and pledged further refinement of the organisation’s polling methodology in future projects.
