    VIDEO: Nigerian soldier indicts leadership over military’s inability to defeat terrorists, bandits

    A Nigerian soldier has practically put the blame for the inability of the Nigerian military in defeating terrorists and bandits and putting an end to insurgency in the country squarely on the country’s leadership.

    The young soldier who made the assertions in a trending video posted on X on Tuesday, said Nigerians should stop blaming the field soldiers as they work based on instructions and obey orders from their superiors.

    Speaking in Hausa language, the soldier said tackling the terrorists and bandits would not take them much time if they are given the marching orders, but that unfortunately, their superiors are not giving them the orders to take the fight to the enclaves of the criminals.

    He also accused the military eggheads of benefiting from the war against insurgency, hence their apathy in directing the right hit on the terrorists.

    “Stop blaming the Nigerian military, we work with orders. We have the weapons and manpower. If our leaders gave us the directive to face these criminals head-on, we would finish them in a week.

    “But the leaders are profiting from these heinous crimes. What is Zamfara bush, for God’s sake, that we cannot secure? If we can go to other countries for peacekeeping, why can’t we do the same in our own country?” the soldier said, among other things.

  • UK regulator report indicts Air Peace alleged breach of safety regulations

    The United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority (UK CAA) has written Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) stating that Air Peace has reportedly violated some aviation safety regulations.
    The development is coming barely three months after the Nigerian carrier commenced the Lagos-London route.
    Two mandatory occurrence reports on Air Peace had been reportedly sent to the United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority.
    The UK CAA, in turn, forwarded the complaints to the NCAA.
    The CAA’s letter of complaint forwarded to NCAA was entitled; ‘United Kingdom SAFA Ramp Inspection Report with reference number: CAA-UK, -2024-0217’ and ‘NATS Management System Safety Report.’
    The NCAA has also written to Air Peace to provide clarification on the issues.
    The NCAA letter, with reference number: NCAA/DOLTS/APL/Vol.11/03624 was titled, “United Kingdom SAFA Ramp Inspection Report.
    It was dated May 14, 2024, and signed by the NCAA General Manager of Operations, Capt. O.O. Lawani.

    The NCAA, in the letter, said the UK CAA had called its attention to the no operational approval of Electronic Flight Bag functions affecting the safe operation of the aircraft, while adding that the captain of the flight admitted that an Electronic Flight Bag was being used for navigational purposes.
    It further noted that the CAA stated in its letter that there was “no mounting device for the use of EFB, no charging points or battery for backup.”
    Ripples Nigeria reports that Air Peace recently commenced operation to London Gatwick from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos under the Bilateral Air Services Agreement, which Nigeria has with the UK.

    Military indicts two officers over Kaduna error bombing

    The Nigerian military high command, on Thursday, said it had concluded its investigations into the bombing of innocent citizens in Tudun Biri village of Igabi LGA of Kaduna State.

    It also said two officers of the Nigerian Army, who were found wanting in the incident would face court-martial, saying the operation shouldn’t have happened in the first place.

    The Director, Defence Media Operations, Edward Buba, disclosed this at a press briefing at Defence Headquarters, Abuja on Thursday.

    It will be recalled that the drone bombing mistake, which occurred on Sunday, December 3, 2023, resulted in dozens of casualties and injuries to residents of Tudun Biri, Ugara and Sabon Gida after they converged at Tudun Biri to celebrate the Maulud.

    The Nigerian Army, which claimed responsibility for the deaths, attributed the incident to a mistake.

    Buba, while giving an update at the briefing, said the report of the investigation has been submitted to the appropriate quarters, adding that he was constrained to speak much about the incident.

    “The military has conducted a painstaking investigation into the incident and has initiated disciplinary action against those culpable.

    “Accordingly, the affected personnel are to face a court martial for acts of omission or commission with respect to the incident.

    “I am however constrained not to speak much about the incident as it would be adjudged as prejudicial being a case before court martial.

    “The military will take extra precautions in the future to ensure that non combatants are safe,” he said.
