Residents of Obelle Community in Rivers State’s Emohua Local Government Area have fled their homes for safety after 19 people were killed in a reignited cult fight on Sunday.
According to evidence gathered, seven people were slain in an assault of the town a few days before to the cult conflict by unidentified shooters believed to be affiliated with a cult organization.
While the community was still reeling from the incident, the two local cult groups resumed their battle for supremacy on Sunday morning after more than two years of rest.
On Sunday, it was discovered that the cult groups Icelanders and Deybam were fighting for supremacy.
According to Punch, the group whose members were killed on Sunday stormed into the Obelle neighborhood after the Wednesday murder and started pursuing family members of those believed to be connected to the cult that had killed seven people before.
In an interview with the aforementioned publication, a local resident named Kingsley asserted that the rivals arrived when the gang that lost its members on Wednesday was still active.
According to Kingsley, cultists clashed in our community on Sunday. Many people have been killed. There were innocent people slaughtered. The gunfire was so intense that many started to flee the town. Approximately 19 people have died.
On Sunday morning, a few cultists appeared and started shooting. They were attacking relatives of people they said were involved in the gang that killed their members. Without any wait, the other group came out. They started shooting themselves. Members left both groups as well.
“We are asking the government to help us. Dispersing our community’s members is the aim of these cults. We want the police and army on our side.

The spokesman for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the tragedy and said the fight was caused by levies from an oil company in the area. “Ten people were killed,” she added.
“It is a cult conflict between Carol and Naked Wire supporters,” she said. They are fighting for possession of levies from an employee of a nearby oil business.
