To address the contentious issues surrounding President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers State, the Nigerian Senate has moved into a closed-door meeting.
The Senate Majority Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, made a motion for the members to enter a closed session while speaking on the Red Chamber floor on Thursday, March 20.
As a preamble to the motion I have in the Order Paper, Bamidele stated, “Mr. President and distinguished colleagues, let me say that I move, pursuant to order 135 of our rules, that the Senate now go into a closed session.” Regards, sir.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio listened to Bamidele’s motion and then asked the minority leader to make his submissions.
In response, the Senate’s Minority Leader declared his support for the resolution calling for a closed session to review the Order Paper’s contents.
Akpabio continued by urging a voice vote on the Senate’s proposal to enter a closed session. Members of the Senate endorsed this.
