Ayodele Fayose, the former governor of Ekiti State, claimed that crucial members of the PDP had defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), leaving the party in ruins.
During a Sunday radio show on Adaba 88.9 FM in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, Fayose reportedly said that the PDP was no longer a party.
Fayose declared that despite the rifts and splits within the opposition party, he would not join the APC and would stay in the PDP.
Additionally, he criticized the PDP leadership for undercutting his contributions to the party’s growth, emphasizing that many of the people who had previously accused him of anti-party activities are now abandoning the party.
According to the former governor, the PDP is in deeper danger and disarray and that its problem is self-inflicted.
Fayose warned that the umbrella party might not even place in the top three in the general elections of 2027, adding to the split and predicting a dismal future for the PDP.
I shall never decamp, he declared. I’ll never visit APC. Do you stay at the party while your family is in crisis? No, I had better be there to combat the internal conflict and oversee the election process. The second will be Mr. Peter Obi. The PDP will finish fourth in the general election of 2027.
“The PDP is no longer a party, thus there is nothing to destroy there. I work for this party, where a lot is expected of those who give. I have fulfilled my obligations to the PDP. Most of the PDP’s strength was drawn by Rotimi Amaechi, David Mark, and Nasir El-Rufia in the ADC today.

“Those who accuse me of being anti-party are suddenly abandoning the PDP in large numbers, even though I’m not an APC member. PDP is a self-inflicted condition. The party is considerably more disorganized and in jeopardy.
“Obi was a former governor of the PDP in his home state of Anambra, and Atiku was a former vice president who kept switching parties, but Wike remained in the party and provided funding for it, and you don’t want me to back someone like that.”
