Three lawmakers in the Taraba State House of Assembly have officially defected to the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP, citing the developmental achievements of governor Agbu Kefas as a key reason for their decision.
The defection was announced on Monday, during sitting, when the Speaker of the House, John Kizito Bonzena, read letters submitted by the lawmakers.
The defected members are Umar Adamu Abdullahi representing Jalingo I Constituency, formerly of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, the representing Ibi Constituency, formerly of the NNPP, Zakaria Sanusi, and Anas Shaibu, representing Karim II Constituency ,formerly of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.
In their separate letters, the lawmakers explained that their move followed extensive consultations with their constituents.
They pointed to the performance and leadership style of governor Kefas as a major influence, expressing a desire to align with the PDP to better serve their communities and contribute to the state’s development.
While acknowledging the support they received from their former parties, the lawmakers stated that their defection would enhance their ability to fulfill their legislative responsibilities.
Welcoming the defectors, the Speaker assured them of full support from the PDP and the House, emphasizing unity and collaboration for the benefit of the state.
