President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given his approval for the University of Abuja, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (NAU) to appoint new members to their governing councils.
The action represents the most recent phase in Tinubu’s reform campaign within the federal university system, according to a statement released on Tuesday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
Dr. Adedeji Adefuye from the Southwest, Professor Sarki Abba Abdulkadir from the Northwest, Professor Aminu Mohammed Dukku from the Northeast, and Professor Rosemary Iriowen Egonmwan from the South-South were all selected by Tinubu to the newly established council for the University of Abuja.

Two new members of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka’s Governing Council have been appointed.
It comes after Professor Aisha Maikudi, the vice-chancellor of the University of Abuja, was dismissed due to concerns about her eligibility and appointment, and the University’s Governing Council was dissolved in February.
Dr. Adedeji Adefuye from the Southwest, Professor Sarki Abba Abdulkadir from the Northwest, Professor Aminu Mohammed Dukku from the Northeast, and Professor Rosemary Iriowen Egonmwan from the South-South were all selected by Tinubu to the newly established council for the University of Abuja.
The Governing Council of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka has added two new members.
Muhammad Inuwa Tahir in the Northwest and Barrister Ogbonna Eugene Odo in the Southeast are the two.
The President of Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka selected four new members to the council of the university.
Ofoke Chukwuma Charles Ugbala and Dr. Nkem Okeke, a former deputy governor of Anambra State, are the appointees. Both are from the Southeast.
Additionally appointed are Nojeeb Oriola Agunbiade, who represents the Southwest, and Dame Amina Patrick Yakowa, who represents the Northwest.
According to national development goals, the appointments are part of the administration’s larger initiative to realign federal universities for better academic quality, strategic planning, and accountability.
