At a public speech in Kaduna on Thursday, June 19, 2025, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had a brief but tense moment when an unidentified person tried to approach the stage where he was speaking. The president briefly paused in the middle of his statement as his security team acted to neutralize the possible danger in the incident, which was caught on live television.
The intruder reportedly came out of the audience and tried to enter the stage directly, according to witnesses. The person was unable to get to the president due to Tinubu’s bodyguards’ prompt action. The intruder was swiftly surrounded by the security detail, who then escorted him out of the area. Despite the brief interruption, President Tinubu maintained his composure. He was observed for a few moments until he was heard telling his security detail to “leave him alone” before continuing.

As of the time of this report, neither the intruder’s name nor his intentions are known. Whether the man constituted a real threat to the president’s safety or other formal information about him has not been made public by authorities. The incident has, however, sparked new questions regarding the efficacy of security measures at well-known official functions.
Although the president’s protective detail responded effectively to pressure, security experts have commented on the incident, pointing out that the ease with which the person approached the stage raises possible weaknesses. One expert stated that “no breach, no matter how minor, should be taken lightly, especially at a time of heightened political tensions in the nation.”
President Tinubu was in Kaduna as part of a round of meetings to discuss issues related to national security and to announce projects for development in the North-West. After the interruption, the event went on without any more problems.
At the same time, Kano reports show growing dissatisfaction among some sections of the population. According to reports, a group of irate young people tore down and burned pieces of one of President Tinubu’s 2027 campaign billboards in the city. The demonstrators have not released a formal statement, but it is thought that the action reflects their mounting annoyance about security and economic issues.
As the general elections in 2027 get near, political analysts have observed that events such as the protest in Kano and the security breach in Kaduna highlight the tense political climate. President Tinubu, who is anticipated to run for reelection, has been under fire from civil society organizations and opposition leaders for governance issues like economic hardship and insecurity.
