Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has charged that rather from addressing insecurity, Bola Tinubu’s administration is encouraging ethnic militia groups and concentrating on political rivals.
Atiku’s criticism came after a fatal terrorist attack in Borno State.
The former vice president denounced the attack by suspected terrorists on a military installation and an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Ngoshe, Gwoza Local Government Area, where more than 100 residents were allegedly kidnapped, in a statement published on X on Friday.
The act was “deeply troubling,” according to Atiku, who also said that the Federal Government’s response to the attack and other such incidents has been insufficient.
He claims that society and the government seem to have grown accustomed to the carnage as a result of the nation’s growing wave of violence.
The Federal Government’s apparent loss of control over the battle against terrorism and violent acts, he said, was regrettable.
Instead, the former vice president claimed that the government was concentrating on pressuring political rivals and supporting what he called self-serving ethnic militia organizations.
It is regrettable that the current federal government seems to be losing control of the battle against violent crimes and terrorism. Rather, it appears to be more concerned with aiding self-serving ethnic militia groups and applying severe pressure on political opponents.
Atiku stated, “It is depressing that those in charge of internal security and the ruling party’s elite are still focused on consolidating power while vulnerable civilians and service members are being killed.”
