To create the “Nigeria of our dreams,” the nation requires leaders like President Bola Tinubu, according to Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, or FCT.
“The Nigeria of our Dreams,” Mr. Wike’s 2025 Distinguish Personality Lecture, was held Thursday at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife.
As Mr. Wike noted, the biggest problem facing Nigeria and impeding its progress was the prevalence of poor leadership.
The difficulty was dramatically depicted in Chinua Achebe’s lecture, “The Trouble with Nigeria,” where he concurred that “the trouble with Nigeria is fairly and squarely the absence of proper leadership.”

He clarified that Nigeria requires a leader who is ready to lead with moral integrity and ability to bounce back from setbacks.
Additionally, he stated that the leader must have faith in the limitless potential of the Nigerian country and make wise, proactive, rational, and well-informed choices that will maximize her potential.
According to him, this leader needs to be bold and strong enough to take action, create, invent, and generally push the boundaries of development with a hands-on approach that prioritizes greatness above mediocrity.
More significantly, he said, the leader of Nigeria’s dream must establish a society of responsible, free citizens whose potentials were unrestricted and free enterprise flourished.
“I’ll take this opportunity to boldly say that Tinubu is one of the leaders we have in our nation today.
“He has demonstrated a strong dedication to establishing democracy in our nation in a number of ways and at various points in time, even going so far as to risk his own life in the process.
“Unprecedentedly fast and exponential growth of Lagos state under his leadership and even beyond demonstrates his great capacity to generate development,” he continued.
On his first day as president, he added, Tinubu showed a rare kind of bravery by eliminating the fuel subsidy.
He claims that the leaders who came before him all discussed the evils of gasoline subsidies, but none of them had the guts to take the risk of eliminating them.
Tinubu has been and continues to be appropriately dealing with the unavoidable, unexpected, and occasionally planned repercussions of this departure.
