As the All Progressives Congress (APC) gets ready for the 2027 presidential election, its political strategists are looking into new ways to improve their chances of winning. According to Dr. Sam Amadi, the director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu may be considering choosing a Christian from the North Central region as his running mate.
Dr. Amadi emphasized changing political circumstances that might force Tinubu and the APC to reevaluate their ticket in an interview on Arise TV. He said that in order to garner more national support, the ruling party might think about balancing its next ticket in light of the criticism of the 2023 Muslim-Muslim presidential coupling.

In light of growing rumors over Tinubu’s relationship with Vice President Kashim Shettima, the analyst made these comments. There was discussion about Shettima’s place on the 2027 ticket after his name was noticeably missing from a recent APC endorsement gathering in Gombe. According to Dr. Amadi, this absence is a reflection of the party’s cautious political maneuvering.
Drawing on Tinubu’s history of transferring deputies during his tenure as governor of Lagos State, Amadi proposed that a similar situation might occur on a national scale.
Any Tinubu strategist would wonder, “What do we lose by matching a Christian from the North Central, which hasn’t produced a president or vice president since 1999, with a Muslim president from the South?” “Oh,” said Amadi.
He asserts that Tinubu may strengthen the APC’s support in the Middle Belt, a crucial area in past elections, with such a move. Amadi warned that Shettima’s replacement might cause internal resentment, calling the possible consequences “collateral damage” that might make Tinubu’s reelection campaign more difficult.
