‘Tinubu Messed Up,’ Says Former Presidential Candidate Adebayo

President Bola Tinubu is not a courageous statesman, according to Adewole Adebayo, the Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) 2023 presidential candidate.

According to Adebayo, Tinubu failed to sign electoral acts when given the chance.

In an interview with Daily Post, Adebayo reportedly made the statement in response to a question concerning political party primaries, particularly the consensus or direct primary.

“My point is that President Tinubu is not a bold statesman,” he remarked. He mishandled the chance he was given to sign electoral acts. However, one individual abusing his position of authority cannot cause democracy to collapse or flourish. Politicians, despite our criticism of the act’s flaws, we must keep in mind that colonial control once existed. After elections, we achieved independence. We held elections while we were under military control, and Abiola prevailed.

Adebayo also rejected plans to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in order to oppose the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027, pointing to the party’s political philosophies.

The ADC is a branch of the APC, according to the SDP chairman, who emphasizes that some of them are upset since they are now not given preference.

“What I care about is that whatever position I take in politics would align with where Nigerians want to go, align with Nigeria’s constitution, align with our founding fathers’ goals and where they think the country should be at this point in time,” he stated.

“I have been a member of the SDP since 1991 and I have no intention of leaving, so it is not my place to comment on the decision of 36 governors to join one party. It doesn’t bother me. I moved here when I was 19 years old. They are more seasonal and have greater mobility. That is their duty. I don’t mind their political style. If you are upset about governors joining the APC, for instance, then why do you rejoice when some members of the national assembly join your side? I don’t agree with this hypocrisy.

What matters to me is the caliber of these individuals who are going. Are they traveling alongside the populace? All of their ratings are really low. They are not finding a solution to any issue. None of Nigeria’s states are safe, secure, have decent employment and accountability records, or don’t have any sort of corruption problem. There isn’t a single element that these unsuccessful incumbents have in common because no state is managing its affairs appropriately. I don’t mind if they’re all moving to one side.

First of all, we do not have a legislative form of government, which makes it difficult to identify the principal opposition. I shouldn’t be offended by the ADC’s decision to imitate. The APC is courting and welcoming governors into their ranks, and the ADC, perhaps because many of them are descended from the APC, believed that this was the best way to be strong. They also began seeking out people of all backgrounds, regardless of whether they shared their beliefs. We don’t care about that.

“In the SDP, we have consistently maintained that ADC is a branch of the APC and APC is a scion of the PDP, and that is still the politics of incumbency.” They are all the same. They are in a relay of failure, passing the baton from one failing administration to another. The ADC employees are attempting to get ahead of the line because some of them have already completed their turn and are currently not being given preference in this cyclic inefficiency and failure. They are making an effort to reorganize.
