In order to represent the diversity of the nation, former presidential advisor Bashir Ahmad has asked Nigerians to see the Tinubu/Shettima ticket as the unity of the Kanuri and Yoruba ethnic groups.

In a post on his verified X profile on Wednesday, Ahmad asked Nigerians to resist religious feeling and stop perceiving the ticket as Muslim.

He went on to say that Nigeria deserves more and that in order for the country to advance, citizens should abstain from resentful politics.

“To tell the truth, I have no idea where this will ultimately lead our nation. If the continued negligent narrative and escalating tensions are only the result of the present presidential combo, why can’t we wait and use the voting booths in 2027 to voice our disapproval?

“Everyone remembers the events of the 2023 elections rather clearly. Religion was not a factor in the campaigns of the APC, President Tinubu, or his deputy. When they visited mosques, they did not encourage religious terror. They refrained from using religion as a political instrument.

I genuinely thought that the Tinubu/Shettima ticket would be predominantly seen as a Yoruba/Kanuri ticket, two ethnic groups coming together to foster national diversity, as many have been arguing that religion should never take precedence over ethnicity. However, because that narrative doesn’t align with the current objective, everything is abruptly reduced to Muslim/Muslim as their ethnic origins are no longer significant.

“We must base our politics on the facts rather than hasty myths intended to arouse emotions if we genuinely care about our country. In his words, “Nigeria deserves better.”
