Tinubu Tasks Governors with Grassroots Resource Distribution

Under the aegis of the National Economic Council (NEC), President Bola Tinubu met with governors on Thursday. He informed them of the increasing disparity in the distribution of resources and urged them to permit resources to reach the lowest levels of society.

He then gave them a lesson on the importance of letting the enormous resources they receive trickle down to state and local residents.

Tinubu also gave them advice on a variety of governance matters, even though Vice President Kashim Shettima chairs the NEC.

The governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, described the events of the meeting as follows: “We just finished the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting with Mr. President Bola Tinubu in attendance, and the meeting gave him an opportunity to brief the governors on the need for the national government and sub-national government to work together for the overall interest of our people and country, Nigeria.”

We recognized his successes in raising income and the outcomes that his administration’s numerous reform initiatives have already produced.

Now that the nation’s income has increased, so too have the subnational governments.

“By ensuring that the additional funds reach the grassroots level, the president devised a plan that will expedite the process and have a greater impact on Nigerians.

As a result, they introduced a program to boost ward-level economic activity. The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, who serves as the program’s secretariat, will undoubtedly be able to provide you with more information later.

The president also acknowledged the difficulties in assessing the environmental impact of his legacy projects, including the Lagos-Calabar coastal road and the Sokoto-Badagry road. He also urged the establishment of a committee to facilitate cooperation between the national and subnational governments in order to expedite the realization of this project.

In order to better serve Nigeria’s interests, a committee would be established to cooperate with the Surveyor General of the Federation and subnational administrations.

“Today’s briefing from the president actually served as a spark to boost our spirits and inspire our workers to work hard and take necessary action.

Accordingly, Mr. President has done a great job for us, the governors, and his administration’s reform initiatives are starting to pay off. The focus on how his administration’s reforms would affect Nigerians directly, from the lowest levels to the average citizen on the street.

We want to feel that Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is operating at our level, which is the next phase of the program. and we want it to be felt at the local level as well. That, in my opinion, covers the two main topics covered at the National Economic Council meeting today.

Tinubu and the Government Launch the Renewed Hope Ward Development Initiative

President Bola Tinubu, meantime, asked state governors to become involved in implementing the policy at the local level as he launched a unique intervention program on Thursday called the “Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme.”

In an interview with State House reporters, Atiku Bagudu, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, stated this.

He claimed that the governors present at the National Economic Council meeting were ordered by the president to find at least 1000 Nigerians who could use financial assistance to launch their own businesses.

Bagudu informed reporters, “The President attended the NEC meeting today and praised the state governors for their cooperation with the Federal Government and with him.

And today, in a very significant next step, the President saw the memo on the Renewed Hope Ward Development Program, a plan to help the administration’s macroeconomic changes, be presented.

“After stabilizing the macro economy, we must drill down to the lowest levels of development in order to stimulate economic activity in each of the nation’s 8,809 wards. We believe that this will increase food security, create jobs, lower poverty, and even improve social protection.”

It’s consistent with our constitution. In order to foster national prosperity and an effective, dynamic, and self-sufficient economy, Chapter Two of our Constitution requires all levels of government—federal, state, and local—to utilize the resources of the country. This can only be accomplished in collaboration.

As a strong supporter of federalism, Mr. President today introduced the Renewed Hope Ward-based Development Program, which is a partnership between the federal, state, and local governments. It is a federation project that will be financed by the increase in the Federation Account’s revenue as well as other initiatives that the federal government and states are working on.

“Equally to identify at least 1000 economically active individuals in each ward that will receive support in order to boost economic activity in each federation ward.” The goal is to use this special aspect of our economy to produce double-digit growth in the majority of wards as we move closer to a $1 trillion economy. It was decided that the NEC should adopt a resolution supporting the Renewed Hope Ward Development Program as a joint effort between the federal, state, and local governments. The resolution also called for the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning to serve as the program’s secretariat and to identify the economically active individuals in each ward.

“It is noteworthy that the International Monetary Fund specifically encouraged us along this path in its most recent report about Nigeria in the 2025 article four consultation, stating that Mr. President’s bold reforms have improved stability and enhanced resilience, liberalizing and strengthening the poor, dismantling foreign exchange subsidies, strengthening revenue administration, and increasing hydrocarbon production—all of which have contributed to improved macroeconomic stability.”

“Mr. President has always believed that in order to reduce poverty and food insecurity, we must invest collaboratively with the federal and state in the creative energy of Nigerians and the geographical wards.” This program was approved by the National Economic Council today after it was successful at the macroeconomic level.
