Tinubu: While Politicians Became Cowards And Sycophants, Dickson Spoke The Truth – Timi Frank

Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, the former governor of Bayelsa State, has received praise from Timi Frank, the former deputy national publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), for denouncing the anti-democratic policies of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Dickson reportedly criticized the current administration’s anti-democratic stance, particularly with regard to Rivers State, shortly after President Tinubu’s State of the Nation Address to a joint session of the National Assembly on Thursday.
Dickson criticized Tinubu for failing to bring up the situation in which he declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, and suspended every member of the State House of Assembly from March 2025.

Dickson’s patriotism and bravery in pointing out the absurdity of the president and legislature celebrating Democracy Day with hoopla when a state in the nation is under military authority were praised by Frank in a statement released on Friday.
He called Dickson a hero and a modern-day champion of democracy in the nation for his valiant resistance against Tinubu’s imposed democratic aberration in Rivers State.

He said that Dickson’s moral position in denouncing Tinubu’s administration’s undemocratic inclinations will live on in the memory of future generations.

Frank bemoaned that rather than democracy and the rule of law, the APC and Tinubu’s administration support impunity, authoritarianism, and one-party control.

“By expressing the opinions of common Nigerians, Senator Dickson played the role of a true opposition,” he remarked. In addition to making me proud as a Nigerian citizen, he also made me proud as an Ijaw son.

As a Bayelsan, he has inspired me with pride. In addition to making me proud as a son of the Niger Delta, he has made the entire nation proud by speaking up against those who are undermining our democracy and our nation.

At a time when so many Nigerian politicians who bridge party lines have turned into political cowards and sycophants, he came out bravely to speak the truth.

“His moral position in denouncing the undemocratic inclinations of the Tinubu administration will live on in the memory of posterity.”

Because he was the only one to address the truth and the actual state of our democracy when Nigerians looked to leaders, particularly those in government, to speak the truth, history would never forget him.

“What Dickson did is similar to what lawmakers frequently do in other nations where democracy is practiced, such as the United States, the United Kingdom, and even South Africa, where you see lawmakers confronting the president with the truth and expectations of the people.” Although he may appear to be alone, we want him to know that the Nigerian people are behind him.

“The world and Nigerians are with him, and we are encouraging him to do more by being fearless as usual, even if his colleagues across party lines oppose him because he is cowardly in his attempt to preserve our democracy.”

Frank further claimed that during the joint session, other National Assembly members knew Tinubu’s speech was heavily skewed toward propaganda and lies, but they nonetheless praised the president out of sycophancy.

“We know that there may be plans to suspend Dickson for what he has done, just as the Senate did to other senators who have previously stood up for the truth,” he continued. “But let him not be alarmed; God and Nigerians will defend him.”

“Being with God and the majority is preferable to siding with the demonic and wicked leaders who are trying to sabotage Nigerian democracy.”

“The Senate’s minority caucus has been completely undermined, which is disheartening because the minority leader should have taken Dickson’s action if there had been a strong opposition.”
