The Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC)’s Governance Advisory Council (GAC) will meet today to talk about the current speakership problem in the Lagos State House of Assembly.

According to an unidentified GAC member who talked to the Nigerian Tribune, suggestions that President Bola Tinubu had ordered Obasa’s reinstatement were denied, calling them false tales propagated by his supporters.
Since Obasa’s dismissal as Speaker of the 10th Assembly on January 13 and his subsequent appointment by Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, the Lagos Assembly has been embroiled in controversy.
Leaders of the party are divided over Obasa’s removal, with some groups calling for his reinstatement. A senior member of the GAC, however, rejected these attempts as unfounded.
“The Lagos State House of Assembly crisis is the reason for our meeting on Monday (today), not Obasa,” the source said.
To meet with President Tinubu, the GAC had previously dispatched a delegation that included Assembly leadership. The problem was talked about, and remedies were offered. The assertion that Obasa’s homecoming was commanded by the president is a fabrication committed by his supporters.
The source further underlined: “No one, not even the President, is interested in overturning the choice that his colleagues took away from him as the first Speaker. Tinubu, who is a democrat, would not meddle in this manner.
Disagreements have also arisen inside the GAC as a result of the speakership problem, especially between two powerful groups: the Justice Forum (JF), which criticizes Obasa’s return, and the Mandate Movement (MM), which backs him.
However, the GAC source denied that the problem was a conflict between factions, maintaining that Obasa’s dismissal was only an Assembly issue.
The Justice Forum and the Mandate Movement are unrelated to the leadership contest. They are not being honest when they demand Obasa’s return. People who have switched parties and returned to the APC are these individuals. He clarified, “Party factions are not the issue here.
According to the source, the GAC meeting is not about reevaluating Obasa’s stance but more about maintaining stability in the Lagos Assembly.
In Lagos, Tinubu continues to be the head of a robust political system. The source went on to say, “But he is focused on national governance and will not allow Lagos politics to become toxic and shaky.”
Furthermore, he denied that the purported drive for Tinubu’s restoration was motivated by Obasa’s awareness of his political activities.
