In the 2027 presidential election, President Bola Tinubu’s prospects of winning reelection could be harmed if Kashim Shettima is removed as his vice presidential candidate, according to former Communications Minister Adebayo Shittu.
Shittu revealed this in an interview on AIT on Wednesday, emphasizing that the vice president is doing a great job and that no one on the winning team has to be changed.
According to him, the former governor of Borno State shouldn’t be replaced because of the much-discussed Muslim-Muslim ticket.
As a highly intelligent vice president, he insisted that Shettima earned the position.
“What he has done to have people start to suspect that he would behave differently is beyond me.
Furthermore, I don’t believe Shettima should be given any pre-verification to stay on Tinubu’s squad. If such recommendations come from anywhere, I believe we need to exercise extreme caution.
“Obviously, it will cause a lot of problems and put the prospect of a second Tinubu president in jeopardy. The victorious team has to play on. When someone doesn’t do anything wrong, they are not punished.
In response to the question of whether the Muslim-Muslim ticket was the likely cause of those advocating for his change, he stated, “I can guarantee you that those who were upset about the Muslim-Muslim ticket at the time, especially the Christians, have not lost anything as a result of it.

I can guarantee you that more Christians in the South have received excellent postings than Muslims, despite the fact that I am a very strong APC member and a Muslim from Yoruba region.
Therefore, I don’t understand why anyone would want to upset the status quo, which has worked out so nicely.
Regarding the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a potential challenge to the ruling party, he suggested that the APC should not assume that any opposition party is a threat.
“We must treat every political group with the utmost seriousness because these individuals are Nigerians, politicians, and human beings.
Additionally, the environment is free. both freedom of action and freedom of association. Therefore, in my opinion, any gathering is important.
Because we, as APC, do have reason to unite at this point,” he continued.
As you may remember, there were two key reasons why we were successful as APC. First and foremost, the PDP’s level of corruption as a government was high.
Additionally, the previous government’s subpar performance came in second. “Thus, every government needs to be sensitive and respond to opponents’ responses appropriately.”
