When it comes to the construction of road and bridge infrastructure, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is treating the South East area fairly and equally, according to Sen. David Umahi, Minister of Works.

Engr. Umahi said in a statement he personally signed that another Mr. Linus Anagboso (D-Big Pen) posted a “wrong and misleading” comment on social media with the tagline, “The Politics of Asphalt: Why is the South-East missing from the map?” This caught his notice as the Minister of Works.

While providing additional details on the accomplishments of the Tinubu government in the area, the Minister pointed out that “some people have closed their eyes over the great and selfless infrastructure development President Tinubu is doing all over the nation.”

“I understand that politics is now in the air, and some people’s chosen path is to deceive gullible members of the public to look good before their people as one fighting for them, and close both eyes, pretentiously, over the great and selfless infrastructure development Mr. President is doing all over the nation,” the statement reads.

“In order for Nigerians to recognize the amazing work that Mr. President is doing in every region, regardless of whether they voted for him or not, I have instructed all Ministry of Works’ Zonal Directors to return to locations in each of the six geopolitical zones throughout the nation and gather all inherited but ongoing projects as well as all new ones.

“Mr. President is bringing Nigerians back together and giving them hope by allocating infrastructure fairly; only those who open their eyes will see that Nigeria is changing.”

The Minister addressed this false information specifically for the record, saying, “Mr. President has four Legacy Projects, and they cover the six geopolitical zones. The South East zone is well captured within the Third Legacy project spanning Cross River-Ebonyi-Benue-Kogi-Nasarawa-FCT, totaling 465km x 2 with South East covering 231.64km x 2 and 231.64km x 1 for ₦445.8 billion, already awarded and work ongoing.”

₦108 billion has already been paid by the President. The corridor’s dimensions were reviewed by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on July 31, 2025, and were increased from 118 km x 1 to 231.64 km x 1 for ₦445.8 billion.

“This dishonest author purposefully chose to call it OYO-BENUE BORDER ROAD in order to mislead and incite Nigerians. This was done after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on the Trans Sahara Section 1 (Ebonyi State to Benue State border) – 123.64km at ₦445.8 billion.

“I insist that, even if he doesn’t apologize, he promptly amend the information. When President Tinubu decided that the South East should have the same road infrastructure as other zones, where was the author? 90% of derelict projects, some of which had been awarded as early as 2013, were resurrected and are currently underway under his leadership.

“Where is the appreciation for the massive ongoing work on the 2nd Niger Bridge Access Roads, 2A, in Delta State, which is valued at ₦146 billion, and 2B, in Anambra State, which is valued at ₦176 billion? The Enugu-Onitsha Road is 208 kilometers long (MTN Tax Credit is valued at ₦202 billion, and CBC (Nig.) Limited is completing the remaining section at ₦150 billion, of which ₦45 billion was released last week), the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway in four sections, the Enugu-Abakaliki, Afikpo-Abia-Imo, Onitsha-Owerri-Aba, Aba-Ikot Ekpene, Umuahia to Ikot Ekpene roads, etc.

“I ask the people of the South East to stand up for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, as he has shown empathy and justice to the zone’s citizens.” We can’t be duped once more. For this connection to be solidified, Mr. President needs to receive up to 90% of the votes from the South East. I’m tired of the South East’s blindly darkened council.

To educate our people, we must take action. We must steer clear of politics based on hate, false facts, and sentiments if we wish to be president. Other zones need our help, and with God, eventually, others will do the same for us. For the interest of all regions, Mr. President needs assistance to finish his eight-year term. Although it won’t be in 2027, we will be number one one day.

However, the Minister declared, “We are known for hard work and love not hate,” and vowed to always stand against any mischief to mislead the public.

“I applaud our leaders, the governors of the South East, for their assistance and the fantastic work they are doing for our people. I implore our people to vote for them and our beloved President to serve a second term in their respective positions. We won’t be duped ever again.
