According to Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), President Bola Tinubu’s international travels and meetings with world leaders are not ceremonial but rather deliberate actions that have bolstered Nigeria’s international ties and drawn substantial foreign investment into the country.

The president’s interactions with key international partners, he continued, demonstrate his steadfast dedication to furthering Nigeria’s economic interests.

President Tinubu has visited several important regions since taking office in May 2023, including Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and the Americas. He has met with leaders and investors in countries like the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, China, India, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Brazil, and others.

The goals of these missions have been improved strategic alliances, trade growth, and economic cooperation.

Yilwatda praised Tinubu for his strategic international engagements and the progress Nigeria has made via consistent diplomatic and economic outreach in a statement released on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications Strategy, Abimbola Tooki.

“These visits have helped reposition our country on the global stage, yielding tangible benefits that will support long-term prosperity,” he said.

With the help of President Tinubu’s diplomatic efforts, Nigeria has already secured over $50 billion in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) commitments, the national chairman noted. Major corporations and sectors have committed to investments in energy, manufacturing, logistics, agriculture, technology, and infrastructure.

Yilwatda also cited recent diplomatic successes like the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which aims to expand trade, investment, and collaboration in vital industries including agriculture and energy.

Yilwatda responded to critics who have called the president’s foreign trips “overdone” or superfluous, saying that doing so betrays a lack of vision and an understanding of the administration’s larger reform agenda.

“These are not paper promises,” he declared. These pledges reflect actual capital flows, potential for job creation, and technological transfers that boost our economy.

“Those who prioritize expenses over benefits are failing to see the wider picture. President Tinubu has implemented a bold, strategic, and essential reform program in Nigeria.

“Knowing that the benefits will be felt throughout the economy, we urge all Nigerians to support these efforts with patience.”

Yilwatda emphasized that the president’s ability to carry out reforms—from institutional strengthening to changes in economic policy—demonstrates a strong commitment to improving the Nigerian economy and raising the standard of living for its people.

He went on to say: “Mr. President has demonstrated the foresight and the resolve to carry out the reforms this country requires. As these diplomatic and economic initiatives start to materially improve people’s lives, now is not the moment for skepticism but rather for solidarity and helpful assistance.
