The State Security Service asserts that it is aware of the preparations that subversive groups are making in various parts of the country to disrupt the inauguration of President-elect Bola Tinubu on May 29.
The State Security Service (SSS) has stated that it is aware of efforts by subversive groups to disrupt the plan in some regions of the country. According to the statement, their goal is to disrupt the work of the security agencies to ensure peaceful ceremonies and to instill dread and anxiety among the attendees.
The SSS continued by saying that unwanted behaviour would only serve to damage the national cohesiveness and solidarity.
Peter Afunanya, the spokesperson for the SSS, made this clear in a statement that was released on Thursday.
Additionally, the secret police counselled the media as well as civil society organisations to steer clear of sensationalism, biassed reporting, false alarms, and fake news.
According to a statement released by the SSS, “citizens, the media, and civil society organisations are advised to strictly adhere to security and civil protocols during the events.”
“They are also urged to avoid fake news, false alarms, skewed reportage/narratives, and sensationalism that may likely incite division, tension, and violence before and after the exercises,” it stated. “This advice applies both during and after the exercises.”
According to the secret police, the contact was made in order to be on the lookout for information that could potentially provoke unrest, tension, or violence both before and after the inauguration.
At the inaugural locations, the secret police issued warnings to anyone who were not approved or accredited to stay away from limited and specifically specified zones.
