A stampede at a children’s carnival on Wednesday morning at Islamic High School, Basorun in Ibadan claimed multiple deaths, according to confirmation from the Oyo State Government.

According to a statement released by Prince Dotun Oyelade, the state’s Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, the majority of the victims were youngsters.

A fast response team was promptly assembled by the government in the wake of the disaster.

“Victims of the incident have been promptly taken to multiple hospitals in the city of Ibadan for medical care,” he said.
In order to determine the exact number of casualties involved in the regrettable occurrence, the Commissioner stated that the government was expecting a comprehensive report from the state’s Police Command.

He added that none of the planning was done by the government.

The state Ministry of Health was not asked to supply any logistics to support the private funfair, according to Oyelade.

The government would do everything within its ability to support the victims of the incident “through this trying period,” he added.

In Ibadan, the Commissioner advised parents who were worried about their children’s whereabouts to examine the medical facilities where the stampede casualties were brought.

“The medical centers are University College Hospital (UCH), Ring Road State Hospital, Molly Specialist Hospital, Patnas Hospital, and Western Hospital, Basorun.”
