According to reports, an unspecified sickness has claimed the lives of at least five students at Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, Aliero (KSUSTA).
Since the university has not released an official statement, some students, who want to remain anonymous, told reporters that four students passed away inexplicably last week, and another passed away on Sunday after feeling ill overnight.
A World Health Organization (WHO) representative visited the institution last week to raise awareness of the dangers of meningitis, according to a source who spoke to Channels Television.
But for the two students who died before they arrived, they did not confirm if meningitis was the cause of death.
Maimaru Alhaji Tilli, the university’s registrar, acknowledged in a statement provided to reporters on Sunday that four students have died, according to the school’s statistics.

According to our statistics, four kids have passed away, although the cause is yet unknown. We have received warnings and advice from the Ministry of Health that the student housing has to be decongested,” Tilli said.
According to Tilli, he has formally contacted Isah Abubakar Tunga, the Commissioner for Higher Education, to seek guidance on methods to lower the death toll.
Furthermore, a student leader confirmed that the killings had occurred and said that the Students’ Union Government (SUG) had spoken with the university management, urging the closure of the school to prevent further deaths.
