Justice Ifeoma Okogwu, a retired High Court judge, was brutally murdered on November 24, 2025, and her tied body was found in her Asaba home. The Delta State Police Command has launched a thorough homicide investigation.

Police officials said that the crime was discovered after the deceased’s brother went to her house and discovered her motionless body in the living room.

There were allegedly ties over her mouth, hands, and legs. The body was taken from the home and placed at the mortuary for an autopsy after the Divisional Police Officer of “A” Division, Asaba, led the officers there after receiving the report.

One suspect, Lucky Matthew, was verified to have been taken into custody by police; Godwin Vanem, the main suspect, escaped the scene and is still at large.

According to police sources, preliminary investigations indicate that Vanem “is suspected to have committed the dastardly act and fled the apartment,” which has led to a vigorous manhunt.

The State Criminal inquiry Department (Homicide Section) has been tasked with conducting a “discreet and thorough investigation,” per the instruction of Delta State Commissioner of Police CP Olufemi Abaniwonda.

CP Offers Assurance of Justice and Condoles Family
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, stated in a statement released on Sunday, November 30, that the Commissioner of Police expressed sympathy to the late jurist’s family and pledged that the command will see to it that justice was done.

The statement said, “On behalf of the command, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, offers condolences to the family of the deceased and guarantees them justice.”

08036684974, 08114895600, and 08025666914 are the emergency numbers that the command asked anyone with information that could help the investigation or help apprehend the escaping suspect.
