In his reflections on Nigeria’s World Cup defeat, Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong stated that if he had been on the field, he would have taken one of the spot penalties in the shootout against DR Congo.
Nigeria’s dreams of making it to the 2026 World Cup in Mexico, the US, and Canada were dashed on Sunday when they lost 4-3 on penalties. Troost-Ekong, who is regarded as Nigeria’s best penalty taker, could only cheer on his colleagues from the sidelines as he watched the entire game from the bench.
