Turkey has strongly condemned Israel’s alleged involvement in a series of deadly explosions in Lebanon, warning that the escalating violence threatens to spread beyond the region. Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan described the situation as “alarming,” stating, “We see Israel mounting its attacks towards Lebanon step by step.”

The blasts, which targeted Hezbollah strongholds, have claimed 32 lives, including two children, and injured over 3,000 people, according to Lebanese health ministry figures.

The unprecedented operation involved explosives hidden in walkie-talkies and pagers, detonating in public spaces such as supermarkets, funerals, and streets.

Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant hinted at increased military focus on Lebanon, saying, “The center of gravity is moving northward.” However, Israel has refrained from commenting directly on the explosions.

Fidan emphasized Turkey’s concerns, saying, “We have come to a point where these operations carried out by Israel have become increasingly provocative, and in return, Iran, Hezbollah, and elements close to them have no choice but to respond.”

He warned that Israel’s actions risked sparking a broader conflict, potentially involving Jordan, Egypt, and the entire region.

Hezbollah’s alliance with Hamas, which has been fighting in Gaza since October 7, has raised concerns about the expanding conflict. For nearly a year, Israel’s military focus has been on Gaza, but clashes with Hezbollah militants along the northern border have resulted in significant casualties on both sides.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, a vocal critic of Israel’s Gaza offensive, offered condolences to Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati over the deadly blasts. Erdogan’s diplomatic efforts aim to facilitate a ceasefire and mitigate the escalating tensions.

As the situation continues to unfold, international leaders are urged to intervene and prevent further violence. Fidan stressed, “The international system needs to stop this before it is too late. This madness does not only harm Palestinians but also hijacks Israelis’ future.”
