At least two police officers have been confirmed killed while three others sustained injuries following an attack launched by members of the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), commonly known as Shi’ites, on some personnel of the Nigeria Police Force at Wuse Junction by traffic light on Sunday.
A statement by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, which confirmed the attack, described it as unprovoked which was targetted at the police personnel at the checkpoint.
Adeh said the attackers were “armed with machetes, improvised explosive devices described as locally made bombs in bottles with kerosene, and knives.’

“The violent assault left two police officers dead and three others unconscious, currently receiving treatment in hospital. In addition to the human casualties, three police patrol vehicles were set ablaze during the attack,” she said.
The police spokesperson however, assured the public that the situation had been brought under control and normalcy had been restored to the area while further developments would be communicated as the investigation progresses.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Benneth C. Igweh, also condemned the attack and vowed to bring those responsible to justice, adding that the police have already made several arrests in connection with the incident.
