In the ongoing scheme to remove Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Sylvanus Nwankwo, the Minority Leader and member of the Rivers State House of Assembly representing the Omuma state constituency, and his colleague Peter Abbey, who represents the Degema Constituency, have reversed course.
During a news conference on Monday in Port Harcourt, the two asked the State Assembly to reevaluate its action.
They claim that “our elders and leaders” pleaded for leniency before the decision was made.
“A notice of impeachment was issued by Rivers State against Governor Fubara and his Deputy,” they stated. We urge our colleagues to balance justice with compassion and look for ways to resolve this issue without going through the impeachment process.
“We are pleading with our colleagues to reevaluate our actions and see how this matter can be resolved amicably, even though the governor and his deputy have violated the Constitution, after hearing so many calls from our elders and leaders, both inside and outside the state.”
According to reports, a notice of impeachment was delivered to the governor and his epDuty on Thursday of last week because to alleged serious misbehavior.
