Former Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel has denied rumors that Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde is considering a 2027 presidential run, saying the PDP governor has never brought up the subject with him.
At an Abuja event, Emmanuel told reporters that attempts to associate Makinde with the presidency in 2027 might be politically driven.
“I am friends with Governor Makinde, a former colleague, and one of the powerful leaders of the PDP, to which I belong,” he stated. On my honor, I can state that Seyi has never officially announced his intention to run for president. Given our close relationship, I believe that he is using this slant as a form of blackmail, either to keep him from continuing to support our party’s reconstruction efforts or to plant seeds of animosity between him and the president.
Although he acknowledged that discussions are typically conducted by those with political aspirations, he said, “My friend Seyi has not reached me or anyone I know of, on that matter.”
Makinde has stayed dedicated to the Peoples Democratic Party’s survival, the former governor emphasized.

“I know and I’m sure that he (Seyi) is a true party man, who, like many of us in the PDP, is totally committed to the resuscitation of the party that gave us a platform for political recognition and service to our people,” Emmanuel stated.
“It would be unethical for us to simply leave the celebration. In order to maintain stability, our multi-party democratic system needs to be supported. In countries where democracy is practiced, like Nigeria, there will always be a ruling party and opposition parties. We must instill the culture of political tolerance that sustains democracy.
Regarding his more quiet behavior following ceding power in 2023, Emmanuel clarified that it was intentional.
“I made a commitment at the end of my administration that when I step down, I will step aside for my successor and return to my private life and engagements, and that is precisely what I have done,” he continued.
I’ve gone back to my personal life, but it doesn’t imply that I’ve abandoned or resigned from politics. In the end, I still communicate and relate to a lot of leaders at various levels, particularly governors who seek my opinion on a variety of public governance-related issues.
According to the Holy Book, everything has its time, in my opinion. Thus, everything has its time, including politics and commerce, and I stick to the idea that everything has its time.
