UK Grants US Permission to Strike Iranian Missile Sites Targeting Ships

Iran warned that the United States’ intention to use British military bases to strike Iranian missile sites threatening ships in the Strait of Hormuz amounts to “participation in aggression” after the British government authorized the United States to do so on Friday.

A British spokesman claims that ministers convened on Friday to talk about the conflict with Iran and Iran’s obstruction of the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the statement, “they confirmed that US defensive operations to degrade the missile sites and capabilities being used to attack ships in the Strait of Hormuz are part of the agreement for the US to use UK bases in the collective self-defense of the region.”

Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister, reportedly warned the United Kingdom that Tehran views Britain’s decision to permit the United States to use British military facilities as “participation in aggression.”

In a call with his British counterpart after Friday’s authorization, Araghchi denounced the UK’s “negative and biased” approach to the US-Israeli attack on Iran.

Starmer Changes His Mind About Using Bases
Earlier this week, Prime Minister Keir Starmer declared that Britain would not fight Iran. At first, he said he wanted assurance that any military action was lawful and turned down an American proposal to utilize British bases for strikes on Iran.

But after Iran attacked British friends throughout the Middle East, Starmer shifted his position and permitted the United States to utilize RAF Fairford and Diego Garcia, a joint US-UK facility in the Indian Ocean.

Since the crisis began, President Donald Trump has reportedly blasted Starmer on several occasions, claiming he was not doing enough to support America.

Before focusing on Britain, which he claimed had formerly been regarded as “the Rolls-Royce of allies,” Trump stated on Monday that there were “some countries that greatly disappointed me.”

In the meantime, “urgent de-escalation and a swift resolution to the war” were demanded in the British spokesperson’s Friday statement.

Britain’s engagement in the Middle East conflict now extends beyond defensive operations thanks to the authorization. In the past, the UK’s involvement was restricted to stopping Iranian drones and missiles that threatened British military equipment and friends in the area.

Since the Strait of Hormuz is the route for around one-fifth of the world’s oil supplies, Iran has essentially blocked oil transit through it in response to what it called “agression.” This has caused a global energy crisis.

As the fourth week of the battle between Iran, the US, and Israel approaches, the number of dead on both sides is rising.
