Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno formally declared his switch from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking Friday in the state capital of Uyo, Eno said the decision was the result of three months of intensive discussions with important political figures around the state.
“There has been a lot of conjecture in the political arena, especially in this state and throughout the country, regarding my possible departure from the PDP, which was the platform that allowed me to become governor,” he said.
This discussion has produced a range of viewpoints. I am here today to answer those unanswered questions. “We should always be open to change, but not let go of our shared values,” the Dalai Lama once said.
Gov. Eno affirmed that he had sent copies of his official resignation from the PDP to the state and national leadership, as well as to his ward chairman.
I have submitted my resignation letter to the PDP ward chairman earlier this morning. Additionally, copies were forwarded to the national and state chairmen,” he stated. “I want to express my gratitude to the PDP for their love, support, and the chance to serve Akwa Ibom under their auspices for the past two years.”
He underlined that the choice was not taken hastily and was the result of numerous discussions with party stakeholders and political leaders. He mentioned that he met with important PDP figures on Thursday night for his last consultation.

He declared, “I think no one in this state’s political history has consulted as widely as I have before making such a move.” As participants in the Akwa Ibom project, I did it out of respect for each and every one of you. I needed your advice, and I thought it was necessary to give the rationale for this choice.
Eno said, “We must be able to interpret the times, flow with them, and not swim against the tide,” in reference to his departure as a reaction to the changing political landscape. I have now made the decision to support the All Progressives Congress after completing my deliberations.
