Opesusi Faith Timilehin, 19, passed away, and the Odogunyan community in Ikorodu, Lagos State, is in sorrow.
After getting a poor mark on the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), Opesusi allegedly committed suicide.
The tragic death of 19-year-old Opesusi Faith Timilehin, who purportedly committed suicide after receiving a score on the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) that left her severely dejected, has cast a pall over the Odogunyan community in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
Faith, a resident of Lagos who was originally from Abeokuta in Ogun State, was determined to get a degree in microbiology. When she saw that her UTME score of 190 was much below her expectations and, in her opinion, insufficient to gain admission to a university, she got emotionally overwhelmed.
A close family acquaintance claims that Faith had previously attempted the UTME. The results of this year’s exam were especially heartbreaking because she had previously taken it and fared better.
The family acquaintance said, “She insisted that there was no hope left for her future and that her prior score was higher.”
Faith apparently consumed a dangerous narcotic known locally as “Push Out” shortly after seeing her results on Monday. Despite being brought to Kolak Hospital in Odogunyan, she was not saved by the medical staff. Shortly after arriving, she was pronounced dead.
The bitter reminder of a desire that may have come true came when, in a heartbreaking turn of events, an email notification offering her provisional admission to study microbiology arrived just 30 minutes after her death.

The email arrived shortly after it was established that she had died. According to a family source, she had been offered admittance.
Her sudden death has had a negative impact on the neighborhood, where people recall her as devout, courteous, and soft-spoken.
While distraught neighbors and supporters expressed their dissatisfaction with the examination system, her distraught parents traveled from Abeokuta to set up her funeral. Many said that the young woman’s dejection was exacerbated by the emotional stress brought on by the general lackluster performance in this year’s UTME.
