Because of the financial restrictions set by the league’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), Manchester United, an English Premier League team, is apparently not interested in signing Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen this summer.
Aiming to limit teams’ excessive expenditure, the PSR was introduced in the 2015–2016 season and allows them to lose up to £105 million during a three-year financial cycle.
Last season, the impact of these rules was especially noticeable when Everton was docked 10 points for exceeding expenditure caps; after an appeal, the penalty was lowered to six points.
Although Matheus Cunha, a forward from Wolverhampton Wanderers, is still United’s top target, Osimhen appears to be the perfect fit to help with the team’s persistent goal-scoring issues.
Manchester United seems prepared to exercise Cunha’s £62.5 million release clause in order to increase their offensive options.
Osimhen might be a good complement to Cunha, according to United News reports, but United would need to spend almost £51 million for the striker, who is now on loan at Galatasaray, and his high salary demands might make a summer transfer impractical.
A player of Osimhen’s caliber would need the team to manage their current wage expenditure efficiently and perhaps cut it.
There are rumors that Osimhen, 26, has already agreed to sign a contract to join Manchester United this summer. For the striker, the Red Devils reportedly made a generous offer of €20 million annually.

According to sources, including Turkish writer Ali Naci Küçük, Manchester United and Serie A powerhouse Juventus have each made a sizable offer of £17.1 million net annually, or roughly £330,000 per week after taxes. A gross wage of almost £660,000 per week before taxes would make Osimhen the highest-paid player at United if this deal were to be ratified.
This pricing and financial structure, however, might soon be reexamined because United doesn’t appear to be interested in pursuing Osimhen any further.
In his discussion of the club’s recruitment strategy on NBC Sports, transfer specialist David Ornstein emphasized that, despite the need to negotiate personal conditions, which are not assured, Matheus Cunha is their top target for the midfield position.
Liam Delap of Ipswich Town is Manchester United’s top priority in terms of striker recruitment, according to Ornstein. He has a £30 million release clause dependant on the team being relegated.
Keep in mind that Delap is also being courted by Chelsea and other Premier League teams, which makes his possible transfer even more competitive. Before the European Under-21 Championship starts, Delap is anticipated to make a choice on his future.
Osimhen has been having an incredible season, scoring 30 goals and dishing out seven assists in just 35 appearances across all competitions while on loan from Napoli at Galatasaray.
