Reno Omokri, a former Nigerian presidential spokesperson, has declared himself the first Nigerian to climb up and down Victoria Falls in history.
The daring feat took place on January 1, 2025, as Omokri descended and ascended the 354-foot Batonka Gorge, unaided by a guide and relying solely on ropes and a harness.

He completed the descent in 2 minutes and 39 seconds, wearing protective headgear, which he later removed for the ascent.
Omokri’s latest achievement adds to his impressive portfolio of adventure exploits, including hiking the Inca Trails of Machu Picchu in Peru, trekking the Phnom Kulen mountain range in Cambodia, and embarking on expeditions in Nepal. He previously flew over Mount Everest in 2019.

The remarkable event was witnessed and documented by James Chinotimba, Manager of Abseil Victoria Falls, along with his team, who captured the entire experience on video.

Speaking to journalists from Zimbabwe and Zambia about his motivation, Omokri said:“Nigeria is the greatest country on Earth, and the Nigerian spirit within me compels me to attempt extraordinary feats. Through my actions, I aim to show the world that Nigeria is much more than the negative narratives perpetuated by mainstream media.”
