Prior to their final match against Morocco in the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has authorized the Super Falcons to receive their match bonuses and allowances in full and immediately.
The National Sports Commission Chairman, Shehu Dikko, said Thursday that the authorized funds cover all entitlements up to and including the July 26 final.
In an Abuja press conference, Dikko declared, “This is a policy in motion.”
“All pending entitlements have been paid out to players, coaches, and officials immediately.”
Dikko emphasized that timely payment of allowances will now be the rule rather than the exception, marking a significant change in Nigeria’s approach to sports administration, according to reports.
He declared, “This is the type of sports administration that we are establishing, one that is based on respect, confidence, and mutual success.”
“Under Tinubu’s leadership, athletes can now concentrate on representing the country with pride, knowing that their welfare is a top priority,” Dikko continued.
D’Tigress
According to reports, the President also approved that Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, who will begin their campaign at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket in Côte d’Ivoire, should also receive increased allowances and bonuses, indicating that Tinubu’s gesture is not just for the Super Falcons.

“D’Tigress has been given the same structure of support and timely remuneration as they get ready to fly the nation’s flag in Abidjan,” Dikko said.
Noting that President Tinubu’s permission marks a significant shift from previous procedures and reaffirms the administration’s dedication to sports development and athlete care, Dikko gave his word that those days were ended.
“This will be remembered as the pivotal moment by future generations — a period when athletes received timely and respectful rewards,” he said.
In what should be an exciting WAFCON final, the Super Falcons will likely play host country Morocco, and in the upcoming weeks, D’Tigress will start defending their continental title.
