Bala Mohammed, the governor of Bauchi State, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu of attempting to scare opposition leaders.

Governor Mohammed asserted at a press conference that the federal government was trying to persecute Nigerians who do not support their party by using state institutions, such as the courts and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

He said that opposition members are prepared to declare war if the administration does not stop its acts.

“The APC-led federal government believes they can use the court and the EFCC to prosecute Nigerians who are not in their party,” he declared.

“We are ready to declare war if they don’t stop.” We will never longer remain silent, I promise. I’m not going to let anyone prosecute me for not joining their party.

He reaffirmed his commitment to speaking out against any perceived misuse of power and underlined his unwillingness to join the APC.

On Friday, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike disclosed that Mohammed had visited his home to plead with him to postpone the recent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention.

According to Wike, Bala begged him to postpone the convention while the party’s reconciliation efforts proceeded, but he turned down the request.

According to reports, the Minister revealed the information during his monthly media chat in Abuja.

However, he stated that the PDP can still have an effect in the 2027 elections and that his faction’s doors are still open to anybody who wish to rejoin.

“Politics is like football; it’s not hard to reconcile,” Wike remarked. We have disagreements, and since you made a mistake here, that is what we are doing. Since we have reached this stage, let’s be honest: there is still time. After the crisis, PDP is still working to make an effect.

“We did everything we could to help them understand why we need to unite and why we are where we are. Bala Mohammed contacted my ADC on Tuesday of last week to say he wanted to talk to me and to visit me because he was just returning from Lagos. He promised to wait when I told him, “I’m not in town, but I will give you a call when I’m around.”

Naturally, I kept my word and called the next day to let them know that I wouldn’t be able to make it since I had to fly to the airport to meet Mr. President. When he arrived at my place at around 11 p.m., we were having a conversation when he said, “Look, can we postpone the convention so that we can sit down and discuss?”

“I said, ‘No, that would be wrong because you can’t shoot yourself and expect me to shoot myself too. The court said, ‘Don’t hold this convention. You set up a committee made up of prominent Nigerians and they came up with a resolution to you. Now that the incumbent NWC’s term is almost up, it will help us so that nobody will go in a divided form. You refused that advice and accused the committee you set up of being compromised.

“We did not go back to the Federal High Court in Ibadan to validate your so-called convention, whereas you did.”
