It was not former President Muhammadu Buhari who encouraged former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to run against Asiwaju Bola Tinubu for the party’s 2023 presidential ticket, according to Chief Bisi Akande, the former interim National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to Chief Akande, he questioned Buhari on a number of things, including if he supported Osinbajo’s choice to run for president of the APC, but the Former President responded in the negative
Buhari informed him that running for office against your mentor was against his culture, according to the former governor of Osun State.

When probed about Buhari’s support for Tinubu’s candidacy in an interview with Edmund Obilo, Akande revealed the truth.
Nevertheless, he added, Osinbajo did not resign for Tinubu in spite of attempts to prevent resentment among Yoruba candidates.
I questioned Buhari about a number of things, including if he encouraged Osinbajo to run against Tinubu. Akande responded negatively, explaining that in his culture, you don’t challenge your mentor when he expresses interest in a job.
Speaking about Tinubu’s friendship with Osinbajo, Akande disclosed that he was instrumental in Osinbajo’s selection as vice president.
When it came to replacing Bakare, Tinubu and Buhari were debating it in 2011. “I’m going to recommend Osinbajo, and I did,” Akande stated to Tinubu.

Although Tinubu should have learned a lot about Nigerian politics now that he is president, Akande stated in the interview that Tinubu was more knowledgeable about Lagos and American politics at the time.
He was completely uninformed about Nigerian politics, despite having extensive knowledge of American and Lagos politics. I don’t know how much he’s learnt since becoming president,” he said.
