The appeal for a coalition to overthrow the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has been endorsed by Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, a former candidate for governor of Lagos State from the Labour Party.
According to reports, Rhodes-Vivour stated that the federal and Lagos ruling parties could not be a part of such a coalition.
In an interview with News Central on Monday, the leader of the Labour Party charged that the APC was to blame for Lagos’ subpar governance.

“A coalition has my full support. That alliance, however, cannot include the APC. Because I believe that the APC’s governing style in Lagos State is to blame for all that is wrong with the state, including my own suffering and that of many Lagosians, I have been quite consistent in my position. Therefore, I cannot adhere to it,” he stated.
According to Rhodes-Viviour, the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are not the same thing. The PDP never held power in Lagos State, he claimed. “I want a coalition that will free Lagosians from godfathers,” he continued.

“Not in Lagos. That’s not what I think. And for that reason, I joined the Lagos PDP. The PDP has never held a position of authority. Funso Williams was their closest friend, and we all know what happened to him.

Building a coalition base that can effectively oppose and overthrow this government is, in my opinion, necessary so that the people can genuinely benefit from governance free from a godfather who is pulling strings and demanding that the money that has accrued to them be used for the benefit of Lagosians. Additionally, he said, “It is not worth my time to join any coalition that restricts that potential.”
