Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has revealed that the recent visa restrictions imposed on Nigeria by the United States, under President Donald Trump, stem from Nigeria’s failure to take decisive action against terrorism and its financiers.

Frank, in a statement on Friday, said the new U.S. policy—which targets individuals involved in terror funding and sympathizers—has placed increased pressure on Nigerian authorities to act with greater transparency on matters of national security.

He praised President Trump and members of the U.S. Congress for introducing measures aimed at curbing terrorism linked to Nigeria, describing the move as a “welcome development” and evidence of America’s commitment to global security.

According to Frank, the restrictions have compelled Nigerian officials to revisit longstanding concerns about terror financing. He accused the government of failing to release details of individuals allegedly identified by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as sponsors of terrorism, insisting that political interference has hindered accountability.

Frank argued that corruption and political interests continue to weaken Nigeria’s efforts to address growing insecurity despite the nation’s capacity to tackle the challenge. He urged the U.S. not to share sensitive intelligence with Nigerian officials until the full list of terror sponsors is made public and proper action is taken.

“If President Trump had not stepped in, Nigeria’s leaders would still be looking the other way,” Frank said, noting that the move has given Nigerians renewed hope for an end to terrorism.
