According to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), his absence from last week’s Council of State meeting had nothing to do with rumors that President Bola Tinubu had turned down his candidate for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) chairmanship.
Wike was said to have missed the Council of State meeting because President Tinubu had supported Prof. Joash Amupitan’s nomination as INEC Chairman and rejected his own.
Speaking at the opening of access roads in Sector Centre B, Dakibiyu District, Wike advised people to disregard the needless blackmail and misinformation.
Wike emphasized his employment with Tinubu and mentioned that he had other commitments, so he sent a representative to the meeting.
“Last Thursday, we had a flag-off, and I gave the FCT Minister of State instructions to represent me at the Council of State meeting,” he stated.
The FCT was represented in that meeting by the Minister of State since I had previously notified Mr. President that I would not be available due to other prearranged commitments.

They said that I didn’t go because I was upset over my nominee’s rejection. Since I work for the President, I believe that his judgment has always been focused on placing this nation in the proper perspective.
