The statements made by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde that he pledged to keep President Bola Tinubu’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in check in the 2027 elections have been characterized as a flagrant fraud by Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike.
Speaking at a media conference on Monday, Wike claimed that President Tinubu had never made such a pledge during a meeting.
Makinde reportedly made fun of Wike at a recent news conference in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo state, by saying that people should have the freedom to pick their political supporters.
He clarified that Wike is unable to force his political preferences on others.
Makinde claims that during a meeting with President Tinubu, Wike, and a few others, the former governor of Rivers State announced that he will run the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Tinubu in 2027.
The governor of Oyo State stated that he was astonished by Wike’s statement and that he (Makinde) would not participate in such schemes.
But Wike has refuted these allegations.
Makinde has never called him Wike in person, the FCT Minister continued.
