Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory’s (FCT) minister, has criticized former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi’s remarks over his involvement in the “Occupy the National Assembly” demonstrations.
During the 2027 election, Amaechi and his son were among the Nigerians who demanded that the results be transmitted electronically.
Amaechi told reporters that he brought his son because he felt that leaders should be there in person and stand with the people during large-scale protests rather than observing from a distance.
Wike, who attended the event with two of his sons and gave the keynote address at the 2026 Distinguished Personality Lecture Series of the Faculty of Social Sciences on Tuesday, responded to Amaechi’s action by making fun of the former Minister’s assertion that he brought his son, a doctor, to the protest in order to provide emergency care for attendees.
“I brought my son here, who is a medical doctor, in case anyone falls down,” said someone who attended a demonstration the other day, according to Wike.
In the meanwhile, the toddler is not carrying any medical equipment. In the meantime, he is alone without an ambulance in case someone passes out.
Wike also called out opposition leaders for being hypocritical, saying that people who are now demanding openness said nothing about such reforms while they were in high places in the government.
