Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has become the national leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) amid the party’s ongoing internal crisis, according to former presidential adviser Reuben Abati.
According to reports, Abati made the comment on Monday’s Morning Show on Arise Television. She cited recent PDP developments that point to a potential return of Wike’s political dominance, especially in light of conflicting court decisions and rival party conventions.
Abati insisted that Wike is still the leading figure in the PDP while citing decisions made by several courts, including those presided over by Justices Lifu, Omotosho, and Akintola, as well as later decisions from the Court of Appeal.
The seasoned journalist questioned the legitimacy of competing factions’ conventions, such as the one at Moshood Abiola Stadium, which was allegedly observed by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials.
Despite the uncertainties, Abati continued, Wike seems to have solidified his standing inside the party, with supporters increasingly believing that he now has a prominent position at the national level.
“Because it was a victory for his own wing of the party, Nyesom Wike has established himself as the national leader of the party,” he stated.
However, if you examine the rule of law now, which convention is still in effect? If you examine the decisions made by Justice Lifu, Justice Omotosho, Justice Akintola, and the ensuing court of appeals rulings. They are judgments, not rubies.
Which convention is currently in effect? The issue is that the INEC, a 13-person delegation headed by a Nigerian Senior Advocate, attended the convention at the Moshod Abiola stadium.

“The joke is on the PDP as a political party, but it was a weekend of conventions with a lot of ugliness and excitement.”
