Even though Nyesom Wike publicly backed the party’s candidates in the recently ended FCT area council election, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has insisted that Wike is not a party member.
APC candidate Wike, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, had worked for and made sure the APC candidates won the election.
Five of the six local government chairmanship contests in the Federal Capital Territory polls were won by the APC.
Prior to the election, Wike reportedly made a public commitment to back candidates that share President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
His strong participation in the campaigns and the election’s final result have sparked ongoing discussion, especially in relation to his political affiliation.
Felix Morka, the APC National Publicity Secretary, was asked in an interview on Arise News what the party would do if Wike were an APC member but employed by another political party—a move that is generally seen as anti-party.
Morka refrained from speculating.
“No, pay attention. You want me to make assumptions, and I won’t. That is the PDP’s question. Regarding the PDP’s party structure, member treatment, and handling of such issues within the Peoples Democratic Party, you ought to ask them that question,” he stated.
“I can’t make assumptions about something that belongs only to the party, you know.”
On behalf of the ruling party, Morka acknowledged the minister’s influence on the outcome of the FCT election but emphasized that Wike’s political standing remains unchanged.
