Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has advised residents against participating in the upcoming protest planned by certain segments of the Nigerian population.

Wike made the appeal during interactions with residents following an inspection of the ongoing construction of Saburi Road in Abuja on Thursday.

Some Nigerians have scheduled nationwide protests starting August 1, citing concerns over hunger and insecurity in the country.

However, Wike asserted that President Bola Tinubu was fully aware of the challenges and actively working towards solutions. He characterized the current hardships as temporary, attributing them to ongoing reforms and policies that are expected to yield positive outcomes soon.

According to Wike, the protest is being orchestrated by political interests aiming to destabilize Tinubu’s administration. “Those asking you to protest are lying to you. It is not for the interest of Nigeria, and it is not for your interest,” he emphasized.

He urged Nigerians to exercise patience and refrain from joining the protest, emphasizing that demonstrations would not resolve the underlying issues. “The government is aware of the hunger, and that is why it is working hard to find a lasting solution to the problem,” Wike assured.

Acknowledging the frustrations caused by hunger, Wike urged understanding, saying, “Please be patient. This hunger will reduce very soon.”

Responding to residents’ requests for improved infrastructure in Saburi, Wike assured them of the government’s commitment. He pledged to construct a police station, while Mr Christopher Maikalangu, Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council, committed to building a health facility.

Wike also reassured the community that the ongoing road project would be completed as scheduled, emphasizing that work has progressed without interruption since its commencement.
