Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, a former governor of Niger State, has praised the removal of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to reports, the PDP ejected Wike and suspended National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu and former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose during its national convention on Saturday in Ibadan, Oyo State.
In response to the news, Aliya declared that the PDP had eradicated the disease that had been weakening the party.
He made this statement in Abuja during the 6th Zik’s Awards Lecture, which was a celebration of the late Nnamdi Azikiwe’s 121st posthumous birthday.
After Wike and his friends were expelled, the former governor voiced optimism that the party would be able to proceed.
“Like surgeons, we remove a cancer, the cancer that has been a part of our party and has crippled the party,” stated Aliyu.
“We hope that once the cancer is removed, the party will be able to move and provide Nigerians with a choice.”
Additionally, he cautioned against making the nation a one-party state, citing the dire repercussions.
“We shall pay the price if we make the error of establishing a one-party state in Nigeria. Therefore, it’s beneficial that we provide the Nigerian people with an option,” he continued.
