Peter Obi, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, and Alex Otti, the governor of Abia State, are the losers in the party’s leadership crisis, according to the Julius Abure-led section of the Labour Party (LP).
This was said on Saturday by Obiora Ifoh, the party’s polarizing National Publicity Secretary, in response to a court decision over Saturday’s by-elections.
The faction was taken aback by Interim National Chairman Nenadi Usman and her team’s celebration after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) revoked Julius Abure’s recognition in response to a Federal High Court ruling on August 15, 2025.
Usman and her allies, Ifoh claimed, were influencing the opposition. Perhaps they wanted the LP dead, he thought, which is why they were celebrating.

“Are they not strengthening the opposition’s position? Who stands to gain from this whole ordeal? The loser is who? Aren’t Dr. Alex Otti and Peter Obi the losers in all of this? Is the reason for their celebration the death of the party?
When they were disillusioned with other political parties, they found a platform in the party that gave them hope when they had none.
Therefore, it is childish for Nenadi to be disseminating the identical counter-affidavit as though it were a brand-new document. We see their celebration as meaningless,” the statement read.
