Hadiza Musa, the Deputy Head of the Maternity Unit of Gambo Sawaba General Hospital, was slain by alleged attackers who tried to take her cell phone in Zaria, Kaduna State.
According to reports, the incident happened on Saturday night while she was on her way home from an Islamic pharmacist and salon in Filin Mallawa, Tudun Wada, Zaria.
Her husband, Abuja-based Hamza Ibrahim Idris, verified the development to Daily Trust, stating that he last spoke with her at approximately 6 p.m., following her departure from the pharmacist.
When she left the chemist, we made our final call after sending her some money. I was unable to get in touch with her after that. I thought her phone’s battery had died, so I kept phoning until the next morning,” Idris explained.
Idris claims that his wife was attacked by attackers when she got on a commercial motorcycle at approximately 6:30 p.m.
“There were indications that someone had squeezed her hands in an attempt to grab the phone.” He added, “They also gave her a severe blow to the head, and she bled heavily, which I believe caused her death.”
He clarified that the assailants confiscated her phone and abandoned her on the side of the road close to Mallawa Eid site in Tudun Wada after she fell into a coma.
After being discovered by a kind stranger, she was taken to a neighboring clinic and then taken to ABU Teaching Hospital in Shika, where medical professionals pronounced her dead.
Idris went on to say that the tragedy happened just three months after Hadiza’s sister passed away. Hadiza had adopted three children from her sister.
He lamented, “She now left behind three of her own children and the three she adopted.”
Abdulkadir Balele Wali, the hospital secretary, characterized the deceased nurse as a committed practitioner.
She had been working until late Friday as the Deputy Head of the Maternity Unit. She was dedicated to saving lives, professional, and industrious. The hospital as a whole is very saddened by her passing,” Wali remarked.
