Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has confirmed that he is not connected to campaign posters that imply he is running for governor of Delta State in the general elections of 2027.
Keyamo called the posters “fake” and described them as a foolish attempt at extortion by those seeking to control the Delta All Progressives Congress (APC) for their own purposes in a statement issued on Monday through Voke Oshasha, his Special Assistant on Political Matters.
As the 2027 election draws near, there are rumors that the minister may be assessing support inside the APC.
Some stakeholders believe that the posters may have been intended to challenge former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege, who is also rumored to be interested in running for governor, according to report.
Rejecting these presumptions, Keyamo stressed that the posters are meant to misrepresent his and other Delta APC leaders’ attempts to create a more inclusive party rather than letting one individual control it.
In the statement, Oshasha said: “We have noticed certain phony posters going around the internet that claim Olorogun Festus Keyamo, SAN, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, is interested in running for governor of Delta State in 2027 on the APC platform.
Nothing is more untrue than this. Those who wish to use Delta APC as their personal estate are engaging in cheap blackmail. Their plan is to misrepresent the sincere attempts of the Minister and other leaders to free the party from the control of one person and allow all members to freely participate.
“Mr. Keyamo, like President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of NADECO fame, has a long history of opposing injustice and military dictatorships, and he has no qualms about opposing civilian dictatorship either.”
He emphasized that in order to stop the party’s collapse in the state, the APC leaders in Delta had formed a strong coalition.
To be clear, nobody is left out or excluded. That’s the straightforward message. Instead of begging for tickets or kneeling in someone’s hamlet to create structures, everyone must work together. Delta APC must embody democratic principles.
“The Minister will continue to work with others to accomplish these significant objectives despite all current attempts at blackmail,” the statement continued.
